Cirith Ungol is an outstanding Heavy Metal outfit from Ventura, California who took their name from the famous Lord of the Rings stories, modifying it slightly by substituting the 'K' for a 'C'. Though the band went through several lineup changes and only managed to release four albums in a ten year span, they managed to gain a cult following, especially in Europe. Cirith Ungol's albums featured the killer fantasy art of Michael Whelan.

Though most of their work was very solid, 1991 produced 'Paradise Lost', which in my opinion is the bands best effort. In 2001, a two CD compilation, 'Servants Of Chaos', surfaced; sporting unreleased, live, demo, and rare nuggets.
