Without any doubt in my mind, the Pretty Maids, hailing out of Denmark, were the most underrated band of the 80s and 90s. They have put out quality album after quality album. Yet if you were to ask most people who some of the really good Heavy Metal bands of the 80s were, the Maids probably wouldn't be mentioned much; what a shame!!! The Maids are very melodic, yet maintain their heaviness. They have well-crafted songs that border on being a touch progressive but at the same time, are very accessible.
One of the best things about this band is that they continued to rock hard through their latest studio release. They didn't wuss out and start putting out wimpy ballads and garbage; sure, they had a lot of ballads but was a common thing throughout their career. A good starting point for a Maids beginner would be Sin-Decade, and then my favorite album, Carpe Diem. If you try those albums and you don't like this band, then you probably won't like the rest of their stuff; however, if you give them a try, I think you'll be hooked and will love everything they've done.
