Type O Negative is one of the most well-known Gothic Metal (actually, a mix of many genres) acts to hail from the USA. They started out in the late 80s and released their debut album in '91. Their first two albums were pretty odd to say the least, and the original cover (not shown here) of 'The Origin of Feces' donned a picture of Pete Steele's ass hole; no joke. Their third release, 'Bloody Kisses' earned them some mainstream success, and the band has accelerated its career with each successive release. They obviously have some fascination with the color green, as each of their albums sports the color.
In 1994 they were featured on the Sabbath tribute album 'Nativity in Black' offering up their take on the Sabbath classic "Black Sabbath". Many successful metal bands have noted Type O as an influence, which is apparent with many of the European Gothic Metal bands. As always, it will be interesting to see what Pete and company come up with next. I'm sure it will be shocking, rude, and in your face.
